JOB SUMMARY
We need fluent/proficient speakers to lead 2 small language pods (3-4 learners in each pod). One is a beginner level language pod, one is intermediate level. The pods need to meet for 4-5 hours a week, which can be scheduled for times that best suit the pod leader and learners.
DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
- Immersion style learning methods
- Follow the master apprentice principals
- Sessions should be everyday activites, like cooking, going for a walk, going grocery shopping, crafting, tea time, games, and TPR activities, etc.
- A focus on speaking everyday language in Kwak̕wala.
REQUIREMENTS
The Fluent/Proficient Kwak̕wala Speakers must be:
- Fluent or proficient in Kwak̕wala, or working towards proficiency.
- The ability to be flexible with scheduling times.
- Positive and encouraging teaching methods.
- Knowledge of First Nation social and historical issues impacting First Nation communities.
Key relationships
- Students in the language pods.
- Language Program Coordinator and Education Administrator.
WORKING CONDITIONS
- Location of the language pod sessions can be decided amongst the pod members.
- Working in a harassment-and violence-free environment.
- Employees must provide a “Criminal Records Check.”
