    Kwigwis Head Start Daycare has an opening for Early Childhood Educator. Position is permanent full time, 35 hours a week Monday through Friday. The Kwakiutl Band offers a benefit package to employees after a probationary period. Wages start at $25 hourly, for licensed ECE, plus wage enhancement ($6.00 per hour).  

    Job Summary: 

      Reporting to the daycare manager, educators will work in the daycare providing high quality care. Early Childhood Educators will provide creative, holistic, and inclusive programming in a group setting supporting children and families. You will offer learning experiences as an invitation to wonder, explore and create to the children. Programming will incorporate the 6 Head Start components: Culture and Language, Education, Health Promotion, Nutrition, Social Support, and Parent and Family Involvement. Our center values open honest communication in a supportive, positive working environment. Knowledge of Kwakiutl culture and traditions are an asset. 

    Qualifications: 

    • Clear Vulnerable Sector Criminal Records Check 
    • Valid first aid certificate  
    • Meets the requirements of licensing to practice as an ECE or Assistant

    • Knowledge of the Community Care and Assisted living Act and Child Care Licensing Regulations  
    • Understanding of the development of children and their mental, physical, social, emotional, and spiritual needs  
    • Ability to communicate effectively with parents  
    • Understanding of the importance of inclusivity of children with special needs  
    • Ability to supervise children’s indoor and outdoor activities ensuring required safety standards according to licensing are met 
    • Ability to maintain healthy collaborative working relationships with members of staff, community, and other representatives from various organizations 
    • Ability to effectively plan and manage time wisely  
    • High professional and ethical standards  
    • Experience in working with First nations communities and/or organizations an asset  

    Duties, including but not limited to: 

    • Guide and assist children in the development of appropriate eating, dressing and toilet habits  
    • Document and submit written observations of children if there are signs of potential needs 
    • Maintain day-care equipment and assist in light housekeeping, cleaning, laundry duties  
    • Maintain a clean facility following the cleaning policies and protocols  
    • Plan and implement developmentally appropriate play-based activities and experiences  
    • Maintain a safe outdoor environment
