REQUEST FOR PROPOSALS (RFP)
Western Sunrise Salmon Seine Skipper
Kwakiutl Nation Development Corporation (KNDC) is seeking proposals from qualified individuals interested in operating the Western Sunrise for the 2026 salmon seine fishery.
Position Opportunity
The successful applicant will be responsible for operating the vessel, supervising crew, ensuring safe fishing operations, and helping maximize fishing opportunities available through KNDC licences and quotas. This is a seasonal opportunity for the 2026 salmon seine fishing season with preference given to Kwakiutl members.
Applicant Requirements
Applicants should provide a summary of their relevant fishing, vessel operation, and crew management experience, along with details of applicable training, certifications, and references from previous salmon seine or other fishing-related work where available.
Required and Preferred Training
Applicants should provide details of all relevant marine certifications and training. The successful applicant must hold a valid Fishing Master, Fourth Class (FM4) Certificate of Competency, or demonstrate equivalent qualifications acceptable under Transport Canada requirements for the operation of the vessel.
Applicants should also identify any additional certifications held, including Marine Emergency Duties (MED), Radio Operator Certificate – Maritime (ROC-MC), Marine First Aid, Bridge Watchkeeping, navigation training, and any other relevant marine safety or fisheries-related certifications.
Applicants should also demonstrate an understanding of Transport Canada’s safe manning requirements and their ability to crew the vessel appropriately, including ensuring that qualified mate(s) and crew are available where required. Experience operating commercial fishing vessels, supervising crews, and managing safe fishing operations will be considered strong assets.
