    JOB SUMMARY

    The Language Plan Consultant Assistant is responsible for assisting the Language Plan Consultant  (LPC) in developing a language revitalization plan for the Kwakiutl Band.  The LPC Assistant main responsibilities will be to get community input on language revitalization programming through meetings, surveys, and information sessions.  In addition to this, the LPC will  be required to help assemble a Language Plan Advisory Committee, comprised of elders and Kwakiutl community memebrs, that will guide the planning process.

     

    DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES

     

    • Help create a language revitalization plan for Kwakiutl Band Council.
    • Help assemble a language plan advisory committee.
    • Help organize meetings & information sessions in community.
    • Gather input from community members & advisory committee.
    • Solicit and gather knowledge from Elders.

     

    REQUIREMENTS

     

    • Demonstrated planning skills: must have experience with developing community plans.
    • Demonstrated writing skills.(i.e. plans, proposals, reporting)
    • Ability to work independently or as part of a team.
    • Excellent communication skills and a “people person” personality.
    • High degree of attention to detail and quality of the finished product.
    • Minimum of 1-year post-secondary education in the related field
    • Vulnerable persons criminal record check.
    • Valid BC driver’s license.
    • Preference will be given to those of Kwakiutl ancestry.

     

     

     

    Key relationships

    • Advisory Committee, Kwakiutl Band staff, and community members.
    • Maintains good relations with the Kwakiutl membership and community promoting language revitalization.

     

    WORKING CONDITIONS

    • Some irregular work hours may be required (i.e., for meetings, events)
    • Some travel may be required (i.e., for meetings)
    • Working in a harassment-and violence-free environment
