Early Childhood Educator Job Posting
Kwigwis Head Start Daycare is looking for dedicated Early Childhood Educators (ECE) who are ready to do the important work of supporting children with early development. Reporting to the daycare manager, the ECE will spend their time actively involved with the children, interacting, supporting and guiding the children with learning activities and daily routines that incorporate the six components of Head Start. The ECE will support children with a safe and healthy environment, modeling caring, and respect. The ECE will establish supportive positive relationships with children, staff, families, administration and community.

Responsibilities:
- Ensure children’s health, safety, dignity, and well-being
- Able to work independently and with a team, supervise groups of up to 8 children.
- Plan, prepare and implement age-appropriate curriculum and activities, incorporating the Head Start components.
- Respond to each child’s needs in a developmentally appropriate way.
- Communicate with parents and caregivers regarding their children.
- Maintain a clean and safe learning environment through light housekeeping duties
- Maintain the play and storage areas in an organized way
- Works within provincial licensing regulations and daycare policies
- Honors the confidentiality of the daycare, children, and families
- Maintains the safety of the daycare by making repairs as needed and notifying the manager when repairs are needed.
- Participate in ongoing professional development (staff meetings, training sessions, etc.)
- Flexibility to work across all programs based on operational needs
- Works in consultation with professionals such as behavioral therapists, occupational therapists and speech-language pathologists.
- Attends to the children’s physical and emotional needs including diapering, toileting, eating, sleeping, comforting and co-regulation.
- Performs other duties as required. Will assist with duties as discussed with the daycare manager
Qualifications
- ECE Registry certificate or working towards ECE certification
- Criminal Record Check (vulnerable sector)
- Knowledge of child development.
- Knowledge of First Nations culture and traditions, willing to complete cultural safety course
- Knowledge and understanding of the BC Community Care and Assisted Living Act Child Care Licensing Regulations
- Current Childcare First Aid/CPR certification
- Food Safe certificate

Start Wage:
$22-25/ hr. plus a wage enhancement dependent on education.
