JOB SUMMARY
The Language Plan Consultant (LPC) is responsible for developing a language revitalization plan for the Kwakiutl Band. The LPC will be required to get community input on language revitalization programming through meetings, surveys, and information sessions. In addition to this, the LPC will be required to assemble a Language Plan Advisory Committee, comprised of elders and Kwakiutl community members, that will guide the planning process.
DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES
- Create a language revitalization plan for Kwakiutl Band Council.
- Assemble a language plan advisory committee.
- Organize meetings & information sessions in community.
- Gather input from community members & advisory committee.
- Solicit and gather knowledge from Elders.
REQUIREMENTS
- Demonstrated planning skills: must have experience with developing community plans.
- Demonstrated writing skills.(i.e. plans, proposals, reporting)
- Ability to work independently or as part of a team.
- Excellent communication skills and a “people person” personality.
- High degree of attention to detail and quality of the finished product.
- Minimum of 1-year post-secondary education in the related field
- Vulnerable persons criminal record check.
- Valid BC driver’s license.
- Preference will be given to those of Kwakiutl ancestry.
Key relationships
- Advisory Committee, Kwakiutl Band staff, and community members.
- Maintains good relations with the Kwakiutl membership and community promoting language revitalization.
WORKING CONDITIONS
- Some irregular work hours may be required (i.e., for meetings, events)
- Some travel may be required (i.e., for meetings)
- Working in a harassment-and violence-free environment
